Portrait session with David, Alexandria, Virginia. September, 2017.

David, a photographer and figure model that I have come to know over the past year, recently visited my Alexandria, Virginia studio and sat for a portrait.  I have photographed David throughout the past year and have always enjoyed our time together – David has a great sense of humor and I enjoy the time that we spend together.  After our first portrait sitting, David suggested that we collaborate as often as possible in order to document the changes that chemotherapy have made on his body.  Flattery aside, I am still touched by his request.  I look forward to many…

Portrait session with Francine, Alexandria, Virginia. October, 2016.

Francine, a superstar figure model and veteran of the retail music industry (RIP Tower Records), recently stopped by the studio in Alexandria for a portrait sitting.  Francine and I had conflicting schedules for longer than I would like to admit and it was awesome – awesome! – to finally collaborate with her on a sitting.

Portrait session with Dwid, Richmond, Virginia. April, 2017.

Dwid Hellion, frontman for legendary hardcore / metal band Integrity, recently sat for a portrait during my U-haul sessions outside of the United Blood hardcore and punk festival in Richmond, Virginia.  I have listened to Integrity for the better part of the last 20 years and it was a real treat to get a few minutes to talk with Dwid and make his portrait.

Portrait session with John, Alexandria, Virginia. January, 2017.

John, a photographer here in DC, recently stopped by to sit for a portrait in my Alexandria, Virginia studio.  John brought an abundance of energy and a certain thoughtfulness to the portrait sitting – he had interesting points of view and, when I expressed the difficulty that I have with overthinking the artistic process, he nodded in solidarity and grinned while describing his approach to creating art.

Portrait session with Jared Flynn, New Jersey. October, 2016.

I recently had the honor of making a portrait of Jared Flynn, a fantastic artist and one of my oldest friends, during a trip to New Jersey.  Jared, a painter by trade, posed the classic test for any artist – how do you create a portrait of an artist that lives up to the sitter’s standards?

Portrait session with Jo and Ava, Alexandria, Virginia. October, 2016.

After a recent portrait sitting with Jo, she paid me the one of the highest possible compliments – she asked me if I would photograph her and her daughter Ava and, to make it even cooler, she told me to approach it exactly as I please.  Another dream sitter!

Portrait session with Carl Severson, Holmdel, New Jersey. October, 2016.

I recently collaborated with Carl Severson, head honcho at Good Fight Entertainment and an old friend of mine, on a series of portraits while visiting New Jersey.  Carl saw some of my recent portraiture and suggested a collaboration to use for business purposes and, as an artist can only wish for, simply told me to do what I do.  Fantastic, right?

Portrait session with Rosa, Alexandria, Virginia. October, 2016.

Rosa, a friend of a friend (and now a friend-friend of mine), recently sat for a portrait in my Alexandria, Virginia, studio.  Rosa was admittedly anxious about the process and wasn’t sure that she would be comfortable during the session.  The result?  She knocked it out!

Portrait session with Jo, Alexandria, Virginia. September, 2016.

Jo recently stopped by my Alexandria, Virginia studio for a portrait sitting and a lengthy discussion on the merits of and universality of The Smiths.  The Smiths were an easy task to conquer – it only took moments to come to an agreement on their collective genius.  Our portrait session moved right along and, before we knew it, we were wrapped and saying “goodbye” to one another.

Portrait session with Aaron, Alexandria, Virginia. June, 2016.

Aaron has been a pal since we were kids – he may not remember this, but I used to watch him skateboard in summer rec and it motivated me to get my own setup – and I jumped at the opportunity to have him sit for a portrait at my photography studio in Alexander, Virginia.  A late show by Guns ‘n’ Roses the night before may have made the morning a tad slower and sleepier than otherwise normal, but we still had a great (abbreviated) portrait sitting before he hit the road.

Portrait session with Dan, Alexandria, Virginia. June, 2016.

Dan, one of my oldest friends and professional colleagues, recently visited Alexandria, Virginia, and we had an opportunity to make a portrait that reflects his dedication to his Masonic brotherhood as well as his fantastic sense of humor.  I am not sure what Dan was expecting when I begged him to bring down some “grotto clothing” for his visit, but we had a great time knocking out a series of portraits that we both love.

Portrait session with the Kain Family, Syracuse, New York. Part II. July, 2016.

As I mentioned earlier, I recently traveled to Syracuse, New York and made portraits of my friend Ron and his family.  Working with the Kains on their portraits was a treat!

Portrait session with John McKaig, Alexandria, Virginia. June, 2016.

John McKaig, an accomplished artist and old friend, recently visited my studio to collaborate over a portrait sitting.  John recently wrapped a gallery show and had a moment of downtime before jumping back into the studio.
